Axial particle drift in the positive column of a discharge
Abstract
Experiments demonstrate a decrease in the axial ion drift velocity in a gas discharge with increasing i/R, where i is the discharge current, and R is the tube diameter. A quantitative explanation is offered, based on the interaction of ions and atoms with the directed electron motion and with the tube wall.
