Stability of weak shock waves
Abstract
The stability of shock waves with a finite width wave front is examined in the approximation of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili type (1973) for multidimensional waves in a weakly dispersive medium. It is shown that a weak shock wave is unstable against transverse modulations, and the development of this instability produces a turbulent shock wave front.
