Digital optical-fiber communication link for 1 Gbit/sec
Abstract
The paper describes an experimental digital 1 Gbit/sec optical communication link with a GaAlAs double heterostructure injection laser as the light source, a 1.6 km-long single-mode waveguide as the transmission medium, and a silicon avalanche photodiode as the photodetector. The electronic components were implemented in integrated thin-film technology; hybrid integrated ECL-OR gates were used in the demultiplexer.
