Polarimetry of HM Sagittae in 1977-1978
Abstract
According to five-color polarimetry on six nights, the polarization parameters of HM Sge are time-variable and wavelength-dependent. The interstellar polarization of HM Sge are determined. The nearly monotonic decline in the percentage polarization with increasing wave number resembles the behavior typical of reflection nebulae. Probably the polarization arises in an asymmetric dust envelope composed of dielectric (silicate) grains measuring about 0.2 microns. The estimates for the color excess and distance of HM Sge are refined.
