The pendent-drop method to determine surface or interfacial tensions
Abstract
The pendent-drop method for measuring surface and interfacial tensions is absolute, requires only small volumes of liquids, is readily amenable to temperature control, does not require detachment, and does not depend upon the contact angle. It can be brought to its highest level of accuracy by control of external vibration, high-precision measurement of drop dimensions, and a computer program that accepts multiple readings of drop-shape coordinates. How these conditions may be fulfilled is described in this paper.
