Some considerations about sky noise temperature at frequencies above 10GHz
Abstract
Estimation criteria of sky noise temperature as related to elevation angle are presented for frequencies between 11 and 18 GHz. In particular, in the case of clear sky conditions, some relationships for estimating noise temperature as related to elevation angle are given in which only the knowledge of ground absolute humidity is required. The noise contribution due to atmospheric precipitation is computed from rain attenuation and corresponding kinetic temperature knowledge (between 260 and 280 K). Procedures to evaluate the angular dependence of the attenuation exceeded for time percentage of 0.17 or 0.01% (on a yearly basis) are given. Attenuation values can be obtained for a given elevation angle if the attenuation at other angles is known.
