The terrain shielding algorithm used in the MASR airborne surveillance radar program
Abstract
The algorithm described herein quickly determines if a point on the surface of the earth is visible or not from a remote aircraft due to masking by nearby terrain features. It was designed to work in an airborne radar surveillance system, updating a 16 x 16 km area every 4 seconds with a resolution of 250 x 250 m.
