Analysis of the consolidation of layered soils using the method of lines
Abstract
The consolidation of a cross anisotropic horizontally layered soil is analyzed using a method in which the solution is decomposed into its Fourier components for plane strain and Fourier-Bessel components for axial symmetry. The method has distinct computational advantages over the usual finite element approach and leads to the significant computational savings and has the added advantage that it may be easily implemented on the minicomputer.
