The paper deals with the situation where, under the action of laser radiation, an optical breakdown occurs in a gas, and the resulting plasma front starts to move toward the laser beam. The transient phase of plasma wave formation is studied by numerical simulation, and the transition from a heat-conducting mode to a light-induced detonation mode of wave propagation is studied as a function of the incident radiation intensity.
