Resolution of Navier-Stokes equations by a space-time pseudo-spectral method
Abstract
The precision of spectral or pseudo-spectral methods is mostly conditioned by the finite difference scheme used for the calculation of time derivatives. A pseudo-spectral method is proposed based on an iterative calculation and an approximate factorization of the given equations. This method is used for the numerical resolution of the Burgers equation and then the calculation of two dimensional flows of incompressible fluids (Navier-Stokes equation in terms of the stream function). The results are compared with those obtained by a finite difference method and a finite element method.
