Asymmetrical tearing mode in a collisional plasma
Abstract
Asymmetrical trail functions for the resistive layer are used in a variational study of the growth of the collisional tearing mode in a tokamak plasma. It is shown that an asymmetric tearing mode has a larger growth rate than the usual symmetric mode, and no stability criterion similar to the classical one can be found for asymmetric modes.
