Role of deformation in deep inelastic heavy ion collisions
Abstract
The transport theory previously developed for heavy ion deep inelastic collisions is generalized to include phenomenologically nuclear deformations. Calculated cross sections for the reaction 136Xe+209 Bi show substantial improvements over previous results obtained without deformations. In particular, the new calculated cross sections exhibit a peak at low relative kinetic energy of the two outgoing nuclei.
