Is the Meissner effect explicable in terms of classical electrodynamics?
Abstract
The core radius r0 of a current-carrying superconducting cylinder in the intermediate state determined from experimental data disagrees with the theoretical value of r0 derived on the basis of the classical interpretation of the Meissner effect. Thus the problem arises of whether this interpretation of the Meissner effect corresponds to reality.
