Excitation of currents on infinite wires by vertical and horizontal electric dipoles in the presence of a dissipative Earth
Abstract
The current induced on a horizontal wire above earth by an arbitrarily located Hertzian electric dipole is investigated. Three dipole orientations are considered: vertical electric dipole, horizontal electric dipole parallel to both the wire and the interface between the two media, and horizontal electric dipole parallel to the interface, but normal to the wire. The three cases are combined to give the solution for an arbitrarily oriented dipole. Computational algorithms to evaluate the induced currents are developed and numerical results for the vertical electric dipole case are discussed.
