Noncollinear stimulated Raman scattering in a LiIO3 crystal
Abstract
An experiment has been performed in order to determine the angular distribution of Stokes radiation in stimulated Raman scattering by oblique polaritons in an LiIO3 crystal. The pump is a parallel beam at the second harmonic of an Nd:glass laser at 0.527 micron; the beam is polarized in the YZ plane of the crystal and propagates 30 deg from the optical axis of the crystal as an extraordinary wave. The scattered radiation spectrum is presented, and the dependence of the pump radiation transmitted by the crystal on the pump intensity is considered. The results are of relevance to the determination of the extreme intensities at which LiIO3 crystals can be used to generate second harmonics and parametric waves.
