Active stabilization of a CW YAG:Nd laser
Abstract
Active-stabilization methods are used to increase the stability of two characteristics of a CW YAG:Nd laser: the output power and the relaxation frequency. The methods use a negative feedback system in which the laser output controls the pump power. It is shown that the negative feedback reduces the low-frequency fluctuations by a factor of 100 in comparison with the original noise level; the instability is reduced by approximately the same factor and does not exceed plus or minus 0.05% over 15 min. The drift in relaxation frequency is reduced by the pump control method to plus or minus 2.5 Hz over 15 min.
