Homogeneity of an electron-beam-controlled volume discharge in a transverse magnetic field
Abstract
The paper deals with experiments aimed at studying the influence of a transverse magnetic field on the energetic characteristics of a discharge used to excite the active medium of electroionization lasers. Semi-self-maintained discharges were initiated by an electron beam in air at atmospheric pressure. An external magnetic field was used to simulate the actual discharge field. Quantitative data on the homogeneity of the current density distribution in the discharge are presented. The constraints placed by the proper magnetic field of the discharge current on CO2-laser output power are examined.
