Observations of the X-ray burster 0525.9-66.1
Abstract
The properties of the gamma-ray burst recorded 1979 March 5 with the Venera 11 and Venera 12 space probes and the Prognoz 7 satellite are described. The site of the source in the sky is narrowed by making use of the Pioneer Venus, Helios B, and ISEE 3 observations of the same event. The possibility of identifying the source with a supernova remnant (the nebula N49) in the Large Magellanic Cloud is discussed.
