Spectra of four dwarf novae
Abstract
Spectrograms have been obtained for four dwarf novae, SU Ursae Majoris, IR Geminorum, SY Cancri, and YZ Cancri, using the 6 m telescope. Emission line equivalent widths, Balmer jump values, and H beta line profiles are presented for SU UMa, which differs from ordinary dwarf novae in that its light curve occasionally exhibits supermaxima. IR Geminorum exhibits faint hydrogen emission lines and a weak Balmer jump in emission, while shallow and broad hydrogen absorption lines, as well as strong Ca II, H and K absorption, occur in the spectrum of SY Cancri. Concerning YZ Cancri, hydrogen emission lines of moderate intensity are visible as far as H8, He I lines are absent, and the Ca II line and the Balmer jump in emission were observed.
