C and M stars near NGC 419.
Abstract
In order to determine which stars near NGC 419 show M-type or carbon-type features, a IV - N plate was taken through a grating-prism combination at the prime-focus of CTIO's 4-m telescope. Seventy eight stars were found in this area, all showing strong CN bands at 7948 A, 8125 A, and 8320 A. From their frequency-per-unit area in the field, three C-type stars appear to be likely members of the cluster. The red stars found near NGC 419 are identified and their properties are presented along with other writers designations.
