High-precision gas-laser light rangefinder and profilometer

The need for rangefinder profilometers is noted, and some applications such as studying wave formations are discussed. Attention is given to the problems arising in the construction of such equipment. The results of development and laboratory tests of an aerial profilometer employing a He-Ne laser are reported. It is concluded that the laboratory tests show that a profilometer built on the basis of the principles described meets the primary requirements imposed on such equipment, and is fully useable for numerous applications.
