Steam in RX Puppis.
Abstract
The presence of H2O and CO absorption in RX Puppis is demonstrated by means of 2-micron spectroscopy. The existence of a Mira variable in this star is thereby confirmed. These data are not easily reconciled with a recent model in which a single B giant is invoked as the central energy source. Instead, it is suggested that RX Pup is explicable in terms of a symbiotic binary model.
