Study of ion dynamic effects on Lyman and Balmer hydrogen lines
Abstract
New calculations of the first four members of the Lyman series and the first two members of the Balmer series are discussed, with particular reference to spectral-line broadening in moderately dense plasmas. Attention is given to comparisons between the present calculations and other line-shape calculations to determine the effect of the ionic dynamic additions, and to comparisons with available experimental data to establish the relevance and validity of the calculations. It is shown that the inclusion of ion dynamics is important in the central regions of the Lyman and Balmer series line profiles, and that the effect of ion dynamics is to smooth the central region of the profiles in all cases.
