Initial studies on a rotating inlet for a centrifugal impeller
Abstract
Control of flow separation under the front shroud of a centrifugal impeller is accomplished with either a rotating inlet nozzle to a double shrouded impeller or tripping the flow at inlet just at the entry by means of a boundary layer fence. Experimental investigation reveals that with such a modification the flow at inlet gets stratified and, as a result, impeller efficency improves.
