IUE and balloon spectra of bright, early type stars
Abstract
Preliminary results from an interstellar program are outlined. The analysis covers high-resolution balloon data of the strong Mg I resonance lines in combination with the same lines observed from IUE, including information derived from weaker Mg I and II lines at shorter wavelengths, as well as some other important interstellar lines. A summary of work on mass loss from beta-Ori is presented along with a detailed comparison of the velocities of high-velocity components in the Mg II lines in IUE and balloon spectra taken 50 days apart.
