Maximum attainable toroidal magnetic fields for tokamaks
Abstract
A calculation method of determining the maximum permissible magnetic-field values for superconducting toroidal magnet systems in tokamak reactors is described. Simple scalings for the maximum magnetic-field values, B max, are found. The results of mechanical stress calculations by the finite-element method are introduced into the formulas for calculating B max, yielding considerable changes compared with the B max values calculated without the 'finite-element correction'.
