Transient behavior of laser intracavity frequency modulation
Abstract
The envelope of the sidebands of a CO2 laser digitally frequency modulated at a cavity resonance frequency has been studied. Both theory and experiment yield that rise time is determined by the photon lifetime in the optical resonator. Using a conventional CO2 laser, exponential transient behavior with rise times of some 50 ns has been observed.
