Whispering-gallery CO2 laser
Abstract
The design and operation of a CW CO2 laser based on the whispering-gallery principle is reported. The optical cavity consists of a portion of the equatorial region of a torus terminated by two flat mirrors. In agreement with theoretical expectations, the output beam is found to be TE polarized, and to consist of low-order Airy-Hermite-Gaussian modes.
