Recent Advances in X-Ray Astronomy
Abstract
The paper examines the impact that the new observational capabilities provided by the Einstein Observatory may have on several fields of astronomy. Einstein Observatory is described, and attention is given to X-ray observations of stars and star associations, supernovas and pulsars, bursters and globular clusters, M-31, the Virgo clusters, galaxy clusters, and quasars. It is noted that the Einstein mission has given X-ray astronomy observational capabilities not too different in their power from those available in the visible or radio range, particularly in the study of objects at cosmological distances.
