Zur Informationsübertragung nicht-gaußscher Signale bei vorgegebenem Fehler
Abstract
The rate distortion function of stationary memoryless sources generating signals of Laplacian, gamma, and K sub 0 type amplitude distribution densities are determined and compared to Shannon's lower bound approximations. It is shown that instead of the rate distortion function the approximations may be applied within wide ranges of distortion. An example is given which shows that the rate distortion function is an objective criterion for the comparison of different quantization and encoding systems.
