Large-bandwidth flat cylindrical array with circular polarisation and omnidirectional radiation
Abstract
The experimental properties of a flat cylindrical array with circular polarization and omnidirectional radiation are presented with application to certain space vehicles which, rotating on their own axes, are capable of receiving and transmitting command and telemetry signals in a wide frequency band. The thickness of the array wrapped on a perfect conducting cylinder is 0.04 lambda (0); a bandwidth of 10 percent has been obtained. It is possible to decrease the thickness by a factor of two when using a short-circuited elementary source instead of a flat folded dipole and yet retain the same bandwidth.
