Calculation of turbulent flows in channels and pipes
Abstract
Epshtein's phenomenological model of turbulence (1978) is used to calculate the fully developed uniform turbulent flow of incompressible fluids in plane channels or circular pipes. An analytical solution of momentum and turbulent energy equations is used to derive a formula for mean velocity defect profile in both channel and pipe flows. Expressions for eddy viscosity and friction coefficient are obtained and found to agree well with experimental data.
