Operation of a surface-excited piezoelectric transducer in the radiation mode
Abstract
The distribution of the exciting electric field and of the mechanical pressure in the radiated acoustic wave front is investigated for a new class of piezoelectric transducers in which mechanical vibrations are excited by a coplanar electrode system. The frequency response as well as the differential and integral electromechanical conversion ratios when radiating are calculated with the electrode shape and size taken into account. An experimental method is developed for studying monolithic, surface-excited, broadband radiators.
