A note on the laminar heat transfer in an annulus
Abstract
The paper presents a theoretical analysis for the forced convective heat transfer in an annulus, that represents a common geometry in a variety of heat transfer systems. A flow of an incompressible viscous fluid in a cylindrical annulus is considered and the basic energy equation is derived, assuming that the fluid has constant properties. The effect of axial conduction and viscous dissipation is also considered. The exact solution of the energy equation as an eigenvalue problem is detailed. Graphical representation of the temperature profiles is provided and the eigenvalues for a set of Peclet numbers are given.
