Electron kinetics in a beam discharge with allowance for the finite lifetime of charged particles
Abstract
The paper examines the kinetics of electrons in a beam discharge in a molecular gas and develops a method for calculating the degree of ionization of a neutral gas as a function of input power, neutralgas pressure, and the dimensions of the system. The detailed form of the electron distribution function and various macroscopic properties of the electrons are investigated for the case of a beam discharge in molecular hydrogen; inelastic and elastic collisions of electrons with nonexcited molecules and ions are taken into account along with changes of particle density as a result of ionization and ambipolar diffusion.
