Sine signal quantizers
Abstract
After a synthesis on the practical, optimum, and limit performances of a quantizer, the computable formulas are explicitly given with respect to the magnitude-error distortion measure. The study is then directed to the quantization of sine signals. Different quantizers up to 10 bits are studied and the optimum ones are determined. Their performances are tabulated and compared to the theoretically achievable maximum ones. The comparison of the performances clearly shows what performance increase can be achieved just by choosing adequate quantizer parameters.
