Statistical analysis of catalogs of extragalactic objects. XI. Evidence of correlation of QSOs and Lick galaxy counts.
Abstract
We have found statistically significant evidence of a correlation between the angular positions of a list of 382 QSOs at IbI > 400, 8 > - 230 and the Lick counts of galaxies, m 19: there are on the average 1.45 + 0.39 more galaxies within 15' of a QSO than would be expected if the QSOs were placed at random. We find no trend with QSO redshift or apparent magnitude, and the effect seems not to be due to a few ringers in the QSO list. Subject headings: galaxies: clusters of - galaxies: general - quasars
