The relationship between the attenuations at 11.6 and 17.8 GHz
Abstract
In this paper the relationship between the attenuation at 11.6 and 17.8 GHz is studied on the basis of propagation data acquired during the first year of the SIRIO experiment. An almost-linear relationship was found for both Fucino and Lario stations. Using this relationship a uniform rainy cell model was derived characterized by effective rain intensity and path length in compliance to the measured attenuations. A convective rain structure was found to be common during the most severe events observed at Lario; conversely stratified-type rains appeared to prevail at Fucino. On the basis of this structural model, attenuation data at different frequencies and depolarization values for different polarizations have been extrapolated.
