Degree of relaxation of globular clusters
Abstract
Numerical integration results for an N-body problem are applied to observational data for a number of globular clusters and indicate that the degree of relaxation of these clusters is small. Of 15 clusters examined all but two (NGC 6093 and NGC 6715 with W = 0.85 and 0.82, respectively) are in the first stage of dynamical evolution and have of modulus of evolution of W less than 0.741. The center, core, and halo are well defined, and the small relaxation times which follow are due to the fact that the theoretical outer radius of the halo is considerably smaller than the observed one.
