Evidence for periodicity in a gamma ray burst.
Abstract
An observation of the gamma ray burst of 5 March 1979 by the French SIGNE II MS experiment aboard the Soviet Venera 12 Venus probe in the 130-205 keV energy range shows an intense, short burst (2 times 10 to the -4th ergs/sq cm, 130 keV-1.6 MeV; duration = 200 ms) followed by four peaks equally spaced about 8s apart with additional intensity increases also equally spaced between these peaks. Power spectrum analysis confirms periodicities of about 8 and 4 seconds.
