Revised photometric elements of the eclipsing binaries IU Aur and delta Lib.
Abstract
Photoelectric light curves of the double-lined spectrum eclipsing binaries IU Aur and 5 Lib, known as sd-systems, have been re-analyzed by means of the Wood program in order to obtain homogeneous photometric elements. Masses, radii, and luminosities are given. 5 Lib is confirmed to be an sd-system, whereas IU Aur might be a contact system. It was found that a change in the orbital inclination angle of 0.3+0.4 degrees/year, explained in terms of a precession around the invariable plane in a triple system, accounts for the increase of the eclipse depths of IU Aur. This observed rate of change of the orbital inclination has been shown to be consistent with theoretical predictions.
