Experimental stress analysis of paints and varnishes
Abstract
Stresses which arise during the drying of varnishes and paints have been found to produce cracks under severe conditions. In the present theoretical and experimental study, these self-equilibrating stresses were measured, and their evolution in time was investigated. It is found that the behavior of varnish during drying is much more complex than could be expected and requires further study.
