Powerful laser is being tested
Abstract
Some of the important features of the LT-1, a 5kW laser, are described. The gas in the working chamber is constantly replaced by a compressor which pumps it around the closed loop of the installation. A cooling system is used to prevent the disappearance of the laser effect due to heating of the gas in the chamber. The resonator is made of four mirrors. The laser beam which leaves the device (one of the mirrors is made with a smaller diameter for this purpose) is focused on the surface to be worked. Movement of the lens allows the size of the spot of the focused beam to be changed smoothly over a board range of sizes, thus controlling the power density. This makes the installation universal, suitable for the performance of all sorts of technological operations.
