Feasibility of parametric stimulated emission and amplification of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than that of the pumping wave, in electron fluxes
Abstract
A principle of active parametric upward conversion of frequency in electron fluxes is considered. It is demonstrated that in electron fluxes the low frequency electromagnetic pumping wave that propagates counter to the electron flux may stimulate or amplify a high frequency electromagnetic wave and a slow space charge wave. Application of this principle to the development of high power parametric oscillators and wave amplifiers in the millimeter and submillimeter bands is proposed.
