Order and disorder in nonlinear fluid motions
Abstract
Some recent efforts to provide a unifying theoretical description which ranges continuously from small-amplitude perturbation theory to statistical turbulence theory are described. In other words, an attempt is made to bridge the gap between perturbation theories of weakly nonlinear motions and statistical approximations for strong, chaotic motions. The resulting mixed deterministic/stochastic flow model is applicable to wavy turbulence and can be used to describe motions of the oceanic internal wave field.
