Limit mass loss by a body disintegrating under the action of intense radiative heating during its motion along a trajectory
Abstract
The present paper deals with the problem of determining quantitatively the ablation of an entry probe. A numerical solution of the problem is obtained for the flow of an intensely emitting gas past a sphere. It is shown that the drag and heat-transfer coefficient vary appreciably along the trajectory and that the body assumes a blunt configuration.
