Statistical theory of strong Langmuir turbulence
Abstract
A statistical theory of strong Langmuir turbulence is constructed on the assumption of spiketype turbulence, that is, nonstationary turbulence continuously undergoing temporal and spatial changes on the scale of modulation interactions. A linear theory of modulation instability of a random pump is first obtained on the basis of an equation with cubic nonlinearity. On this basis, a nonlinear theory is formulated, yielding conclusions on the correlation effects, modulation perturbation spectra, turbulence spectra, and fast particle spectra.
