Structural parameters of the ionosphere by the data of ground-based and rocket experiments and photochemistry of the lower part of F-region
Abstract
Measurements of the neutral-particle composition, electron density, and effective electron collision frequency profiles in the upper atmosphere - made simultaneously from the ground and by means of the Vertical 3 and Vertical 4 geophysical rockets in order to update the information on ionization processes in the lower F region are described. The photochemical theory of the formation of the ionosphere, based on modern conceptions of its constants and on processes in which excited ions are present, was found to explain satisfactorily the height changes of electron concentration observed below F region maximum.
