Mathematical model of an electric smelting furnace
Abstract
A partial differential equation is derived for the temperature field inside the furnace. One of the major effects taken into account in this equation is the distribution of the current density, for which a further partial differential equation is obtained by the use of Maxwell's equations. Simplifying assumptions are discussed for both the derivation and the solution of these equations. Preliminary numerical results are presented, which display the effect of the magnetic field on the current distribution.
