High pressure arcs in SF6. Part 4: Field strength measurements in blown SF6-arcs
Abstract
Voltage measurements were performed in order to obtain information about the field strength in blown SF6 arcs. This parameter is closely related to power input as well as removal during the quenching process for circuit breakers. Test were done using dc in a cascaded channel, a double nozzle configuration for ac arcs up to 1000 A, and a double nozzle apparatus for ac arcs up to 20,000 A. The axial field strength was determined from arc voltage measurements for different positions of the probes. The discharge behavior at different current levels is discussed.
